On 9 November cyclone Bulbul hit Bangladesh. The situation report by the Needs Assesment Working Group Bangladesh can be downloaded here.
Blue Gold Program also made a situation report on the impact of the cyclone on the BGP polders and the role of BWDB, Union Parishads and Water Management Groups and Associations. Also, some lessons learnt have been noted:
- local varieties of rice (with longer stem and often less matured due to a longer growing cycle) seem to have been flattened / damaged more often than modern varieties of rice.
- Increase of cooperation between local organisations would be beneficial for quicker repairs.
- WMOs can increase their preparedness with half yearly prepatory meetings.
The report will be shared on request by e-mail.
