Innovation Fund

The Blue Gold program operates in the South West of Bangladesh: a remote region where agriculture is the main source of income and farmers are both depending and dependent on water.

Accelerating the development inside the Blue Gold polder areas requires new innovative approaches focused on the empowerment of communities, the management of water resources, improvement of agriculture practices and the creation of business opportunities.

What is the Blue Gold Innovation Fund?

The Blue Gold Innovation Fund makes it possible for Blue Gold to try and test new innovative approaches and discover new ways to realize socio-economic development in the polders of Bangladesh. New innovative technologies and approaches can be financed with support from the Blue Gold Innovation Fund, as long as the innovation proposals submitted contribute to the outcome and results of the Blue Gold program.

What kind of funding is available?

Applications to the Innovation Fund follow two routes:

  • Unsolicited Proposals

Under the Unsolicited Proposal category, the Innovation Fund accepts applications for three proposal types: (A) Feasibility Study, (B) Prototype / Pilot and (C) Commercialization / Scale-Up. These are typically smaller interventions, with a maximum duration of 6 months to 1 year. Financing options range between €25,000 – €50,000, depending on the type of proposal.

  • Solicited Proposals

Under the Solicited Proposals category the Innovation Fund accepts applications for concept notes and project proposals on previously selected topics. These are typically larger interventions, with a maximum duration of 2 years and a budget ceiling of €133,000. Solicited Proposals are initiated by Blue Gold through an international Call for Proposals, and have a separate TOR and guideline document that will be published together with the Call for Proposals.

Who can apply?

The Innovation Fund is setup to create links between Blue Gold and organisations based in Bangladesh and/or the Netherlands. Applications to the Innovation Fund can come from knowledge centres, business enterprises, NGOs and Government Agencies, as long as the proposed activities fit within the framework. The Blue Gold program runs from March 2013 to March 2019. As such innovation proposals will be accepted up to July 2018.
